Mark Atwood Johnson was suddenly called
from labor to reward on Juyly 14, 2010, at the home of his parents in Louisa, VA. Born in Washington, D.C. on September 14, 1956, he was the son of Garrett Lenwood and Daphne of Louisa, VA. He was the second of seven children.
During his early childhood, he was baptized at First Bibleway Church of Louisa. Although he was baptized there, he did his early church work at the Peach Grove Baptist Church in Louisa, VA. For a while, he served as a trustee of the church, was a member of the Sunday School and the church choir. During the summer months, he attended Vacation Bible School at First Bibleway Church.
In later years, Mark saw the need to become a member of the Living Water Fellowship under the leadership of Pastor Patricia Dunn. He attended Sunday morning worship service faithfully as well as attending mid week services.
Mark received his formal education in the Louisa County School System and graduated from Louisa County High School in 1974. For several years, he worked in factories, and in later years, was employed as a painter for various contractors.
In 1984, he joined in holy matrimony to Debra Raines and to this union, one son was born.
Mark was predeceased by a loving and devoted grandmother, Mrs. Nannie Wright and a brother, Aaron LaVoie.
To cherish his memories, he leaves a son, Marquis Andre' Johnson of Mineral; one granddaughter, Martina Simone Johnson of Mineral; a loving and devoted father and mother, Garrett Lenwood and Daphne Wright Johnson of Louisa; three brothers, Garrett A. of Spotsylvania, VA, Lenwood O. of Washington, D.C. and Dale V. of Louisa, VA; two sisters, Daphne J. Johnson of Mechanicsville, VA and Stephanie J. Mosby of Ladysmith, VA; two sisters-in-law, Clara S. Johnson of Spotsylvania and Camella B. Johnson of Louisa, VA; two brothers-in-law, Daniel E. Johnson of Mechanicsville, VA and Harry C. Mosby of Ladysmith, VA; his former wife and dear friend, Debra Raines Johnson; five nieces, six nephews, one great nephew, four aunts, three uncles; his devoted and caring extended family, Harvey and Michelle Johnson of Landover, Maryland and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends during a wake service from 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 16, 2010 at Thomasson Watson Funeral Chapel.
Funeral services will be at noon Saturday, July 17, 2010 at Laurel Hill Baptist Church 7652 Kentucky Spring Road Mineral,VA with the Rev. Barry Carpenter officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
