When the time comes to bid this life farewell, we should find comfort in knowing that a loving God will be there with us to guide us to our new home.
Deaconess Marie Bernice Moody peacefully departed this life for her eternal home in the early morning of October 21, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Marie was born on June 17, 1947, and received her early education at Mt. Garland Elementary School, followed by her secondary education at A.G. Richardson High School in Louisa, Virginia.
In 1969, she married her childhood sweetheart, Chester A. Moody, and together they made their home in Landover, Maryland. Their union was blessed with two children: Cheree D. Moody and Chester A. Moody Jr. (CJ). She lived in Maryland for 44 years and was employed at Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) for 26 years, where she was admired for her dedication and warmth.
Marie was known for her delicious sweet potato pies, her infectious laughter, and her deep love for family. She lovingly taught herself how to care for her flowers and spent warm days tending her yard, where her gentle touch brought everything to life. She found joy in spending time with her grandchildren, keeping up with their lives, and sharing in their adventures. In her quiet moments, she enjoyed solving word search puzzles and painting by numbers.
A woman of deep faith, Marie was a longtime member of St. Thomas Baptist Church. She continued her faith journey as a Deaconess at Kent Baptist Church in Landover, Maryland and was a faithful member of Mount Hope Baptist Church until her health declined in September 2023.
Marie's love for God was the foundation of her life. She began and ended each day with prayer, often encouraging those around her to trust in the Lord no matter the circumstance. She found great joy in reading and studying the Scriptures, especially Psalms 23:4, and was known to share her favorite verses with family and friends during times of need. Her unwavering faith guided her through every season of life, and she lived as a quiet example of God's grace, compassion, and strength.
Cherishing her memory and the warmth of her love, her loving daughter, Cheree D.Moody; and her devoted son, Chester A. (CJ) Moody Jr. She also leaves to cherish her memory two adoring grandchildren, Zikiyaa Moody and Zamiyaa Moody, who were the light of her life and the joy of her heart, along with her devoted companion and confidant, Reverend Sherman Thomas. In addition, she is fondly remembered by a host of family, church members, and friends—both far and near—whose lives were touched by her kindness, grace, and unwavering faith.
To the Moody family, we at D. D. Watson offer our most sincere sympathy and condolences. Our prayer continues to be that your abiding faith in God will lend to you a measure of comfort that will strengthen and sustain you during your time of sorrow.
It is during such times as these that we draw upon our faith, stand upon our scriptures, and rely upon our God. There is no question that in this and through this, God will keep you, comfort you, and sustain you. You and your family are forever in our prayers.
