Margaret Buckner Major was born December 9, 1924 in Mineral, Virginia to Charles Buckner and Parthenia Graves and went to be with the Lord on April 23, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Sr., son Kenneth Jr., Joe Foster (Joe's Dad), and her youngest son Joe-Joe. Margaret attended school in Louisa County Public School system. At an early age she joined Laurel Hill Baptist Church, where she was baptized and accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior.
As a child, her family moved to New York where she furthered her education and upon leaving school worked as a seamstress for many years. Later, Margaret met Kenneth Major and raised a family of three children, Parthenia, Kenneth Jr, and Joe. She was an industrious woman who was determined to take care of her family. She also worked as a nurse aide for many years in various nursing homes and did private duty. Margaret was a caring and compassionate woman who took care of her many siblings, along with other family members.
While she initially raised her family in New York, she decided to move back to Virginia in order to give her teenage son a better chance at life. Margaret was determined to leave New York, even if it required her to take on many jobs to care for her family. Here she worked at Woolfolk Sewing factory and then was employed by Vepco Nuclear Power plant as a night security guard. Often she would rent rooms to out-of-town Vepco employees who needed a place to stay during their shortage times. Having been a caregiver for her 100 year old Aunt, siblings, and taking care of others in need, Margaret was often lovingly called Mom. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and wrapped her love around them and her daughter-in-law, Yvette. She was an empathetic, courageous, and loving person. Margaret has touched the lives of so many and will be deeply missed.
She leaves to cherish her memories a loving daughter, Parthenia Morris (known as Peaches), a Son-In-Law, Donald Morris, a loyal Daughter-in-law, Yvette Major, three grandchildren Syrita, Jasmine, and Marcus Major, one great grandson Carlito Edghill, and a devoted and loving friend Samuel Johnson Jr, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Those we love don't go away. They walk beside us every day – unseen, unheard, but always near to our hearts.
The family will receive friends from 1-2:30 pm. Thursday, April 28, 2016 at Laurel Hill Baptist Church 7652 Kentucky Spring Road Mineral, VA 23117. Interment will be private.
