Mammie Rosezenia Johnson was born on March 9, 1920, in Louisa County, Virginia to the late Archie and Ethel Johnson. On Friday, April 10, 2015, at Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia, God called upon his angels to escort his daughter to her eternal resting place.
Mammie was educated in the Louisa County Public School System. At a very young age she joined Mt. Gilliam Baptist Church.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Carl Johnson; three brothers, Jack Johnson, Wallace Johnson and Clarence Johnson; her son, George Parrish; grandson, Reginald Parrish and granddaughter, Felica Parrish.
She was a member Thessalonian Baptist Church where she enjoyed being a part of the Laborer of Christ Choir, Senior Choir and a Deaconess.
Mammie was also affiliated with the Rebecca Chapter 124 of the Eastern Star.
Mammie's favorite thing to do was walking around singing and humming church songs.
On November 14, 2014, it was a happy day for her when Mr. Simms asked her to marry him. The future of Mammie Johnson and Hyland Simms "SAVE OUR DATE TO HAVE AND TO HOLD HIP! HIP! HOORAY WAS GETTING MARRIED TO CHERISH EACH OTHER WITH LOVE ON JUNE 28, 2015 ". I ask that we all keep Mr. Simms in our prayers.
Mammie leaves to cherish her memories, her fiancé, Hyland Simms of Louisa, Va.; one sister, Annie King of Randallstown, MD; daughter-in- law, Barbara Parrish of Cheverly, MD; great-grandson, Sony Royster of Cheverly, Maryland; special cousin, Alice Daniels of Louisa, VA; special niece, Yvonne Sherrod of Oxon Hill, MD; goddaughter, Kim Bickley of Louisa, VA and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 17, 2015 at Thomasson Watson Funeral Chapel, Louisa, VA.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Thessalonian Baptist Church, 278 Old County Road Mineral, VA 23117 with Rev. Henry K. Truzy, Jr., officiating. Interment will follow in the Johnson Family Cemetery.
