She was educated in the Louisa County Public School system. Upon graduation, Mamie moved to the Washington, DC area with her sister.
Her professional career began at the Main Post Office in Washington, DC where she worked in the cafeteria. During her tenure there, Mamie met and married James Green. After years of working at the post office, she landed a job at a German restaurant called Old Europe. She began there as a bus girl but through hard work and dedication she was promoted to manager. Mamie worked at Old Europe until she retired in the mid 70's.
In 1963, she received her calling to the ministry and was ordained by Rev. James Green who was pastoring at Verbryke Memorial Church. Years later, Mamie became Pastor of Verbryke and served there for several years. Mamie also served as an associate minister at Bethesda New Life Gospel Church under the late Bishop Iola B. Cunningham.
During the 90's, Mamie and James had a home built in order to return to her hometown of Louisa. Upon returning to Louisa, she returned to her home church, Philipi Christian Church and resumed activities as an active member. As a minister of God, Mamie visited quite a few churches in the Louisa-Mineral area preaching the gospel and singing God's praises.
