Malvinia Eliza Johnson (née Baker), the daughter of the late Daisy and Charles Baker, departed this life on January 10, 2016, at the age of 84.

She attended school in Louisa County, Virginia. Later, she moved to
Washington, DC and was employed by the DC Government as a food service
cafeteria worker in the DC Public Schools, where she baked rolls and cakes for decades until her retirement. Malvinia loved making sure that each and every student who passed through the lunch line was fed... and loved too.

Malvinia genuinely loved helping people. Over the years, she welcomed lots of neighborhood kids, friends and family into her home for fun and good times. She kept an "open door" for relatives who lived in her home when they needed a place to stay.

Know for her delicious buttery homemade rolls, she enjoyed baking batches of rolls for family and friends who requested them for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Whether she was baking rolls for someone or letting family live in her home, Malvinia was a living testimony to Acts 9:36... she never hesitated to do good and help out.

For 55 years, she was married to her childhood sweetheart, Harvey Clifton Johnson, until his death in 2007. They were blessed with one greatly loved son, Harvey O'Leary. Harvey O'Leary married Donna Lewis and of this union, two children were born, Kelsea Caroline and Jordan Christopher.

Malvinia's grandchildren brought her enormous joy. She enjoyed caring for them when they were young as well as watching them grow up right in front of her. Even as her health declined, Malvinia would still find a way to smile when she saw her grandchildren, heard their voices or if someone mentioned their names.

She joined Philippi Christian Church at an early age and later worshiped at New Macedonia Baptist Church in Washington, DC where she lived. She loved reading the bible and listening to gospel hymns like "Amazing Grace" and "Pass Me Not, O Gentle Savior".

Malvinia leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Harvey O'Leary, of Washington, DC; her grandchildren, Kelsea Caroline and Jordan Christopher, both of Washington, DC; one sister, Daisy Gordon, of Washington, DC; one brother, William Baker, of Woodbridge, Virginia; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Harvey Clifton Johnson, sister Martha Baker, brother Charles Baker, father Charles Nelson Baker, and mother Daisy Abbie Baker.

Rest peacefully Malvinia... We love you!

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, January 17, 2016 at Philippi Christian Church 7133 Jefferson Highway Mineral, VA 23117 with Rev Temple Anderson, Sr., officiating. Interment will follow in the Baker Family Cemetery.
