Madeline Quarles Maddox departed this life on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at the Louisa HealthCare Center. She was born to Robert and Betteen Smith Quarles April 21, 1921 in Louisa County. She was educated in Louisa Public Schools and went on to New York to study nursing. She was employed at the Bellview Hospital for 37 years doing much good for others.
Her parents; husband, Leroy; son, Billy; three sisters and four brothers preceded her in death.
Madeline joined the Pleasant Plain Baptist Church as a young child and remained a faithful member until death. She journeyed every August to attend the week of revival and worshipped with joy and generosity.
While in New York, she was a member of the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church; Rev. Maxwell, the pastor.
After she and her husband retired, they spent their time traveling the United States from coast to coast, the islands of Jamaica, Haiti, Puerto Rico, Italy, London, France, Portugal, Spain and Germany, often taking the younger sister with them.
They spent the cold month of February in Miami, Florida every year.
She leaves to mourn her loss, one sister, Bernice Quarles of the home, six nieces, three nephews, nine grandnieces, one great grandnephew and a host of cousins, relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at Pleasant Plain Baptist Church, 675 Lindsay Road, Gordonsville, VA with the Rev. Harold Soloman, presiding; Rev. Donald King, eulogist. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Plain Baptist Church Cemetery.
