Lula Louisa Quarles Smith, 95, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday night, May 22, 2007 at Louisa Health Care Center. Louise was born April 28, 1912, to the union of the late Deacon Frank Quarles and Deaconess Josephine Elizabeth Davis Quarles in Louisa, Virginia. She was the oldest of six children. She received her formal education in the Louisa County Public School System. She entered the world of work as a caretaker for children and as a housekeeper. She began her christian education at an early age at the St. John Baptist Church, Mineral, Va and was and active and faithful worker in her church.

She met and married the late Clarence Smith and moved to Washington, D.C., where she united with the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank Russell and William Quarles; three sisters, Sylena Perkins, Marie Quarles Carter and Alease Quarles Ware. She leaves to cherish her loving memory a niece, Josephine Carter; two nephews, Emmett Ware and William Quarles and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 26, 2007 at Mt. Gilliam Baptist Church ( Old Site) 4161 Chalklevel Road Louisa, Virginia. Interment will follow in the First Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Sherman W. Thomas officiating.
