On May 17, 2014 God called home Lucy Grooms Epps. She approached death as she did life – her way and unafraid. She was the daughter of the late Frank & Carrie (Burruss) Grooms.
Lucy accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age and was a member of the Foster Creek Baptist Church, Louisa, Virginia. Her parents; a brother, Shelton Grooms; two sisters, Windell Hackney and Hannah Lee Grooms; and granddaughters Stephanie M. Epps and Monique E. Dorow preceded her in death.
Lucy was educated in the Louisa County Public School System. She received a Certified Nursing Assistant Certification and cared for elderly people for many years. She was a kind hearted, giving woman who loved the Lord as well as gardening, traveling and a good game of cards.
Lucy is survived by a daughter, Wanda Annette Epps of Los Angeles, California; a son, Allen Lewis Epps, Jr (Vicky) of Virginia Beach, Virginia; one grandson, Allen Epps, III; one great grandson Blair L. Salas; two brothers, Frank Grooms, Jr. (Ricky) and Carl Grooms (Millie); two sisters, Julia Thurston (Eugene) and Mary Frances Henderson; two devoted nieces, Ethel Williams and Dale Lindsay; a devoted friend, Nancy Richardson; two uncles, Lloyd Burruss (Mary) and Clarence (Cotton) Burruss; two aunts, Joyce Mae Christmas (Ralph) and Marie Christmas; and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Viewing will be held Wednesday, May 21, 2014 from noon until 7 p.m. at Thomasson Watson Chapel.
Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at Foster Creek Baptist Church, Jack Jouett Road, Louisa, VA with the Reverend Michael Crawley, officiating. Interment will follow in the Grooms Family Cemetery.
