Loretta Henson, 80, of Mineral, VA died Thursday, November 22, 2012 at her residence. Loretta was the daughter of the late Gerald Gray and Ida Crawley. Loretta was born on November 28, 1931 in the Province of Nova Scotia. After spending her childhood years in Canada, she came to the United States while serving as an aid to a US Government official. While in Washington, DC, she met and married Clarence R. Henson, Sr. To this union one daughter and five sons were born.
Loretta faithfully attended the Rising Sun Baptist Church until her health did not permit. She loved attending Bible Study on Wednesday evenings.
Loretta's employment consisted of Louisa Manufacturing (where many lasting bonds began forming), Woolfolk Manufacturing, and Louisa Rehabilitation Center.
She was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Clarence R. Henson, Sr.
She leaves to cherish her memories her daughter: Darlene Thelma Henson- Mineral; her five sons: Clarence R. Henson, Jr. – Mineral, Gregory L. Henson - Fort Washington, MD, Jerome M. Henson (Bernadine) – Fredericksburg, Brian M. Henson (Yvonne) – Fredericksburg, and Anthony C. Henson – Louisa; one sister: Joan Crawley – Toronto, Ontario, Canada; one sister-in-law: Dorothy A. Henson – Mineral; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. The family also recognizes two devoted cousins: Leroy and Joseph Sawyer and one devoted nephew: James Henson.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at Rising Sun Baptist Church 6829 Fredericks Hall Road Mineral,VA 23117 with the Rev. Fred Sales officiating. Interment will follow in the Henson family cemetery.
