Loretta Ranson Courtney, 65, pass away Saturday, November 26, 2016 in Philadelphia, PA.
Loretta was born on August 21, 1951 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Isaac and Maude Ransom. Upon the profession of her faith, she was baptized and joined the Mount Zion Baptist Church, Philadelphia, PA.
She graduated from Germantown High School in 1969. Growing up, she and her siblings spent summer breaks in "the country" – never wanting to return to Philadelphia. After graduating high school, Loretta returned to Louisa to live with Grandmom Alice and Popa. Upon her relocation to Louisa County she joined with the membership at the Rising Sun Baptist Church – working diligently as an Usher, a member of the Hospitality Committee, and a Sunday School member.
Loretta began working at Woolfolk Manufacturing where she met, fell in love with, and married Marshall Courtney. God blessed this union with one daughter, Tameka. Loretta also worked at Louisa Manufacturing, Klockners, and most recently with PPL providing in-home care for patients – she was working with Mrs. Mamie Johnson at the time of her passing.
Loretta presented herself as a friend to all she met. She showed love to everyone and never rushed in any situation. Loretta had loving, caring friends for every situation – eating and shopping: Jackie, Angie, and Katherine; doctor's appointments: Cookie; going to church services: Darlene; taking rides to work: Karen; sharing a laugh or two: Nellie, Erma, Jane, and Sunny.
Loretta is survived by her husband: Marshall; her daughter: Tameka; her grandson: Alan; two brothers: Ray and John; two sisters: Denise Norfleet (Al) and Sheila; five aunts: Velma Johnson, Dorothy Rice (Salt), Julia Jackson, Angie Anderson, and Frances Smith (Sylvester); three brothers-in-law: Charlie, Richard, and Gary; devoted cousins: Carol and Janet; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held noon Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Rising Sun Baptist Church 6829 Fredericksburg Hall Road Mineral, VA 23117. Interment will follow in Spring Grove Memorial Cemetery.
