Lola J. Shelton, 71, departed this earth on June 17, 2026, at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital, stepping into the eternal embrace of the Lord she served so faithfully. She was a devoted mother, cherished family member, steadfast friend, and true woman of God.

Lola walked through life with a gentle strength, a vibrant spirit, and a heart rooted deeply in Christ. In 2020, she celebrated a well-earned retirement from Siemens, transitioning into a chapter of life where she could fully immerse herself in the things that brought her the greatest joy: her faith, family, and community.

Lola lived her life as a testament to God’s grace. As a powerful prayer warrior, her faith was not just a Sunday routine, but the foundation of everything she did. She loved Sunday School and Bible Study, always seeking to draw closer to the Lord. Within her church family, Lola wore many crowns over the years, serving with joy and dedication. She lifted her voice as the President of the Senior Choir, helped guide the church as a member of the Bylaw Committee, nurtured the next generation as a Sunday School and Children’s Church teacher, and most recently, brought fellowship to many as the Head of the Kitchen Committee.

Her creativity was another extension of her ministry. Lola had a profound passion for writing, bringing the gospel to life through her beloved youth Christmas plays. Her works, including "Are You Ready?" and "None but the Righteous," will forever be remembered as expressions of her devotion.

Lola has been peacefully reunited in eternal rest with her loved ones who went before her. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Paul D. Shelton; grandmother, Lora Jackson; mother, Wille Mae Jackson; father, James Green; and aunt, Rosa Agee. She is also reunited with her three brothers, Leon, Chester, and Larry Jackson; cousin and brother-in-heart, Tony Agee; and a host of beloved sisters and brothers-in-law.

Lola’s love, wisdom, and prayers will continue to guide the family she cherished above all else. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy in her children: Tywana Pryor, Paula Shelton (Jermaine Johnson), and Travis Shelton. She was the proud and doting grandmother to four grandchildren who brought light to her life: Ivoire Shelton, Nina, Jalayah, and Jayse Johnson.

Her memory will be forever treasured by her sister, Linda Gilliam; aunt, Louella Walker; cousin and brother-in-heart, George "Goo" Agee; and her brothers-in-law, Roger Shelton, James (Deloris) Shelton, and Paul & Dorothy Bishop (Gertrude “Pearl”). She also leaves behind a goddaughter, Shamica Poindexter, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends who were blessed to know her warmth and grace.

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7

Lola J. Shelton lived her life for Christ, and while she will be deeply missed, her family takes comfort in knowing she has received her crown of righteousness. Her prayers will echo in the hearts of those she loved for generations to come.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Galilee Baptist Church, 3598 Three Notch Road, Kents Store, VA 23084. Public viewing Friday, June 26, 2026, from 4-7 p.m. and 1 hour before the service begins.
