Lloyd George Bernard Waddy was a resident of Bowie, Maryland. After a brief illness, Lloyd passed away peacefully at Villa Rosa Nursing Home. Lloyd was born and raised in Louisa County, Virginia where he also attended school. He left home at an early age and served in the army for 5 years as a Mess Sergeant. Upon leaving the service, he made his home in New York for over 30 years where he retired from the New York City Transit Authority.
Before moving to Maryland, Lloyd was an active member of New Hope Lutheran Church in Jamaica, New York for over 25 years. Since he believed in family worshipping together, Lloyd joined Hemingway Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Church when he moved to Maryland, where his daughter Gwen was a member. Lloyd attended church regularly until his health prevented him from doing so.
Lloyd was one of 13 children born to the late Charles and Gustavia Waddy. He was the beloved husband of Nevada for almost 60 years.. Lloyd will forever be remembered by his devoted children, Gwendolyn Short (Thomas) of Bowie, Maryland, Brenda Robertson of Frederick, Maryland and Wanda Waddy of Beltsville, Maryland; brothers, John, Leo and Benjamin Waddy; loving sisters, Aretha Marshall, Ruth Gaston, Naomi King and Queen Pettiford. Lloyd also leaves to cherish his memory, ten grandchildren, Carlos, Neion, Shalonda, Timika, Delonta, Chantel, Oneka, Gereald Jr., Kellie and Shikria; seventeen great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and a host of other relatives and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at Hemingway Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Church, 6330 Gateway Blvd District Heights, MD 20747 with the Rev. Samuel E. Hayward, III officiating. There will be viewing from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service. Interment with military honors will follow at 3:30 p.m. in Laurel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
