Larry Darnell Quarles of Kent Store, VA, departed this life on January 23, 2026 at his home. Born on December 13, 1956, in Charlottesville, VA. Larry led a life filled with compassion, wit, and warmth. His radiant personality touched hearts and his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
At the age of four, Larry moved to Brooklyn NY, to live with his uncle Ralph and Aunt Margaret Arnett. A proud alumnus of Franklin K. Lane High School, Brooklyn, NY. Larry graduated in the class of 1976. He continued as a part of the institution, working as a Teacher's Assistant after graduation, where his warm personality and dedication made a lasting impact throughout the school and the community.
Returning home to Fluvanna County, Larry worked at many restaurants and stores in Charlottesville and throughout the area.
Larry's spirituality found a home when he joined the Galilee Baptist Church. He was an active member of the Men's Course, where he enjoyed singing and fellowship. Larry was a man of faith, and his beliefs guided him throughout his life.
Larry lived his life with passion, always recognizing his relationships with his family and teaching us all to celebrate the connections we have with each other. His memory will continue to inspire us to be ourselves, and love our family. He never shied away from letting everyone know his last name Quarles. When family walked in the room, he was sure to let everyone know That s my brother, my sister, my niece or my nephew.
Larry's love for holidays was infectious. He was known to decorate the tree and outside of his home on holidays. The notebooks for his nieces and nephews in school, quarts of oil for those who had cars and hats for everyone else on Christmas will be missed. His calls to family giving them the 411 when he had big news to share are forever etched in our memory. His infectious laugh and often-unsolicited advice are memories we will always cherished.
He was our Bartender, Parking attendant and closer for all family events. Whether you wanted him to or not. He may have left this world, but his lessons and the warmth of his love will forever remain in our hearts.
His father, Russell H. Quarles, brother Harold Quarles, Ralph and Margaret Arnett,Brother-in-law Lawrence Johnson and nephew Steve Jackson preceded Larry in death. He leaves to cherish his memories his loving Mother Flossie Quarles; Brothers Russell Quarles, Lloyd (Ann) Quarles; Sisters Thelma Jackson, Elsie Scott, Kathryn Johnson,Jacqueline Quarles, Winifred Quarles and Jennifer Arnett of Brooklyn, NY; eight Nieces Lisa, Sabrina, Wanda, Michelle, Diana, Sherry, Chastity, and Sula. Four Nephews Sam,Russell Jr., Joshua, and Quantez. A host of great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends.
To the Quarles family, we at D. D. Watson offer our most sincere sympathy and condolences. Our prayer continues to be that your abiding faith in God will lend to you a measure of comfort that will strengthen and sustain you during your time of sorrow.
It is during such times as these that we draw upon our faith, stand upon our scriptures, and rely upon our God. There is no question that in this and through this, God will keep you, comfort you, and sustain you. You and your family are forever in our prayers.
