Kenneth Allison Smith, Sr. was born on December 26,1956 in Louisa, VA to the late Richard L. Smith, Sr. and Bernice M. Smith. Kenneth, better known as “Jimmy” unexpectedly passed on January 12, 2026 at his home in Louisa, VA.

He was the eighth of his nine brothers and sisters. Kenneth “Jimmy” Smith, Sr was preceded in death by his grandmother, Mamie McKeathon; his father, Richard L. Smith, Sr; his mother Bernice M. Smith, his sister Karen Smith and two brothers, Edward C. Smith, Sr and Richard L. Smith, Jr.

His early education was in the Louisa County schools prior to joining the workforce as a tree trimmer and logger. A sincere ladies man, smooth talker and great baseball player, he found love and wed Doretha Desper in 1978. His union welcomed his pride and joy with his two children; daughter, Latoya Smith and son Kenneth Smith, Jr. (Dr. Kelsie Kelly Smith). He later gained a bonus son, Devin Desper (Veronica Desper).

Jimmy was a man of many talents, from his green thumb to his knowledge of engine and car repairs. He was hard to catch up with but always willing to help if he could. If you asked him about it, he had an answer. He was a man of many words and will always be remembered for his fun loving, kind-hearted, and joyful ways. Even if he told you he didn’t like you, you knew he loved you. To know him was to love him. He was “Jimmy”, "Uncle Jimmy", "Pa-pa", "Smitty", and "Pops".

At any point in time, you would find him under his favorite tree tending the garden and enjoying being outside. He enjoyed shing, westerns, raising his hogs and pigs, and "Dem Cowboys".

He was a true family man, loved people to enjoy themselves and lived life the way he wanted.

In addition to his children, he leaves to cherish his memory, nine grandchildren: Tiahmoni Knight (Kevin), Teihmauri, Kenyon, Kailynn, Dievion, Valicity, T’zyiah, Deniro and Dior, and two great grandchildren; Josiah and J’nyiah. He also leaves his four sisters, Brenda (Edward), Rosetta (Charles), Lorna Stevens and Sylvia (Albert), and brother Marcus Smith Sr. Additionally, he is survived by four aunts, an uncle and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He is loved by many and will be truly missed by not only his family, but his friends and neighbors.

To the Smith family, we at D. D. Watson offer our most sincere sympathy and condolences. Our prayer continues to be that your abiding faith in God will lend to you a measure of comfort that will strengthen and sustain you during your time of sorrow.
