Fort Washington, MD - Keith Carter , son to the late Warren Carter, Sr. and Lucile White Carter, was born on July 4, 1968, in Orange, Virginia. He received his heavenly wings on February 18, 2024, at his residence in Maryland.
Keith accepted Jesus Christ at an early age at Orange Grove Baptist Church, Unionville, Virginia. He attended Sunday school and sang in the choir.
As a child, some of Keith's fondest memories were at Grandma Lizzie's, where him and his cousin, more like a sister, Carla, developed a special bond and became partners in crime at family gatherings, in high school, and college, and beyond. Keith was an avid sports fan, who played basketball for Orange County High School and graduated in 1986. He attended Virginia Commonwealth University on an "extended plan" where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing and an "honorary" minor in social networking, as he became known to be a connector of people. Keith started his career at Footlocker in the infamous Cloverleaf Mall. Utilizing his unique charisma, skill in increasing sales growth, and talent development, Keith climbed the ranks as district manager at several retailers across the DMV, including Sports Zone, 7-Eleven, and Sherwin-Williams.
Throughout his life, Keith cultivated many lifelong relationships, from Upward Bound to his tenure at VCU, from gatherings with Bruce and family at Grans' better known as the Ponderosa to his beloved 'Cheers' family at Applebee's. But above all, Keith cherished his one and only son, Miles, with whom he had an unbreakable bond. Keith was the coach for many of Miles' football teams. Win or lose, as devoted fans of the Dallas Cowboys, they had a date every Sunday during football season to watch the games. During basketball season, they were decked out in purple and gold as dedicated Lakers fans. They had many adventures together and recently took a trip to Miami, Florida for Miles' 21st birthday, where they bonded man to man. One of Keith's proudest moments was seeing Miles become a man.
Keith was a genuine person with a positive outlook on life. His heart was kind, and his spirit was gentle. There was not a space that he entered without a big, inviting grin and a joke to follow. He always lived every day to the fullest and laughed, laughed, and laughed some more. His laid back and easy-going nature helped him relate to people of all walks of life. Certainly, Keith will be missed by the lives he touched simply by being himself.
Keith was preceded in death by his parents, Warren and Lucile Carter, sisters, Gloria Lovelace and Evelyn Carter, and nephew, David Carter.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his son, Miles, his brothers, Warren Carter, Jr., Michael Carter, Sr.(Ann), Bruce Carter; brother- in- love, Carroll Lovelace(Evelyn); nephews and nieces, Michael Carter Jr., Amanda Carter, Nicole Armstrong(Steven), Brandon Lovelace; aunts and uncles, Elizabeth Campbell, Bernice Byrd, Arlene Stanard (Vanward), Mamie Harper(Archie), Annie Carter, Bettye Ann Carter, Beauford White, Edward White(Dianne), Kenneth Pretty, Sr.; great nephews and niece, Mekhael Carter III, Yahir Carter, Shmael Carter, Carter Armstrong, and Camden Armstrong; cousin/sister,Carla White, Darlene Akers-Carter (former wife), a host of special cousins, friends, and numerous other relatives.
