Born September 7, 1954, Karen Rana Holland, the third child born to Julia Mae and Thomas (Dick) Calvin Holland, Jr., was called home by the Heavenly Father on March 14, 2018. She was preceded in death by her father and is survived by four siblings: Loretta Ann Bullock, Calvin Daniel and wife Pamela Holland, Donna Marie and husband William Hytche, Jr., and Aaron Mandel and wife Marilyn Holland. Additionally, she is survived by a host of Uncles, Aunts, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and other closely devoted friends.
Karen was born in and grew up in Louisa, Virginia. While attending Louisa County schools, she was an excellent student and exemplary athlete. After High School she attended Piedmont Community College, Norfolk State University, and the University of Virgina. She ultimately received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Rutgers University, New Jersey and continued her higher education goals at various other universities including UCLA. Karen lived in various places, such as California, Kentucy, Hawaii, Maryland, and Washington D.C before returning home to Louisa. In addition to her vast educational life, Karen also enlisted and received an honorable discharge from the United States Army Reserves.
At a young age she was baptized as a member of Bright Hope Baptist Church, Trevilians, Va. Later, after her father passed, she often attended Galilee Baptist Church, Kents Store, Va. Karen spent her later years at her parent's home in Louisa while working for Thomasson's Realty Company also in Louisa.
A memorial service for Karen will be held at The Sun Chapel at D. D. Watson Louisa on Friday, March 23, 2018 at 1:00 p.m.
