Julia Hassitine Wynn, born July 15, 1937 to the late Earnest Winn and Ora Washington. Julia peacefully and unexpectedly departed this life at the age of 84 on Wednesday, January 5, 2022. at her home here in Mineral, Virginia. She has always been a resident of both VA and Washington, DC.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Marvin, Richard, John & Randolph Winn, Frank Burley and sisters, Thelma Coleman & Artise Warren.
Julia has always believed in Jesus Christ & knew what the power of prayer could do. She attended the Temple of Deliverance, HCG under the leadership of Pastor Lynn W. Beanum for many years, until her health began to fail. Julia also was a long-time member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church, Washington, DC under the leadership of Reverend Leroy Gilbert.
Julia "aka" known as "Punch or " Punchirello", loved giving and working in the community. Julia was a philanthropist, sharing her blessings with organizations such as: St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, The Children's Net & the American Heart Association. She
was also a member of Easter Seals, VFW and more. Julia received her education from the Louisa County Public School System.
For 38 years, Julia was employed by the Board of Governors for the Federal Reserve System – Supervisor/Support Services, Washington, DC, until she retired on June 2, 2013. She also assisted in the Office of Secretary processing numerous letters for the Board of
Real Estate Proposals, as well as working for the Wiggins Family and Alan Greenspan. Julia was a very private lady. While employed and since retiring, she enjoyed photography, providing care & calls to the elderly and excising. Her retirement finally allowed her to travel the world and spend more time with her family here in Virginia. If you knew her, you were guaranteed to get a call around the same time everyday – sometimes multiple calls - just to say hello and see what you were doing -always offering her assistance to somebody. Julia had a nickname for everybody. Throughout the years, Julia and her son, Sherman Sr. and daughter Virginia spent lots of time together – always ensuring Julia was taken care of in a
special way.
Julia leaves to cherish her memories, her only son, Deacon Sherman Winn, Sr. (Virginia); four grandchildren, (Dwain Jackson, Sheron Winn, Sherman Winn Jr. (Seirra) & Shalanda Cox (Jaman); sixteen great-grandchildren, thirteen great-great grandchildren; special friend and soul�mate, John Smith of Washington DC.; remarkable friends, Jose' Brown, Juanita Priceand BJ and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and so many more.
