Julia Barney Shelton was born on September 30, 1937. She was the third child born to the late Smyer and Francis Barney.

At an early age, she joined the Ebenezer Baptist Church. She loved the Lord. Her favorite Hymn was "I Can't Even Walk Without You Holding My Hand."

On June 7, 1952, she entered into holy matrimony to Curtis Shelton. To this union, eight sons were born.

Julia was loving and caring. She devoted her life to being a devoted wife and mother. The cherished memories will be forever embedded in loved ones.

She enjoyed so many things; among them were: watching girl's basketball and softball, watching her sons play baseball, vacationing with her friends at various hotels and cooking for her family. She was a great cook. The family was always bragging on her delicious meals.

Julia was preceded in death by her son, Clarence and two brothers, Charles and Smyer Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memory, a loving and devoted husband, Curtis Shelton, Sr.; seven sons, Curtis Shelton, Jr., (Ruth), Charles Shelton, Sr., (Freda), Robbin Shelton, Leslie Shelton (Eve), Samuel Shelton (Mary Ann), Reginald Shelton, Sr., (Lolita), and Ronald Shelton (Lillian); eighteen grandchildren, Charles Jr., Torrey (Shawn), Curtis, III (Jessica), Christy, Cannan, Sharell (James), Shaunta, Ciara, Shelly, Anthony, Reginald Jr., Duante, Daysia, Alison, Sheletta, Anthony, Latoria and Rahjir; twenty-eight great grandchildren, one great-great grandson; two brothers, Jimmy and Riley; two sisters, Carrie and Francis; one sister-in-law/sister, Grace; one brother-in-law, Wilbur Moore; a very devoted cousin, Packard Boxley; one very special friend, Dorothy Brown and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 864 Pendleton Road Mineral, VA 23117, with Rev. William House officiating. Interment will follow in Shelton Family Cemetery.
