When the time comes to bid this life farewell, we should find comfort in knowing that a loving God will be there with us to guide us to our new home.
Joyce Ann Comfort was born August 5, 1952, in Washington D.C. to the late Lawrence Williams Sr. and Jean Grimes (Payton).
Joyce attended both Washington D.C and Orange County Public Schools. She accepted Christ at an early age and attended church regularly.
On February 26, 1968 Joyce and John Comfort Jr. were joined in Holy Matrimony which resulted in 57 years of Marriage and three children Kevin, Tony, and Jonae. Joyce was a devoted wife and mother. She was also a dedicated employee of Comdial Manufacturing for many years. After leaving Comdial, Joyce successfully obtained her license in cosmetology and worked in various salons. Not only was she a hard worker, she had gifted hands. Joyce took great pride in making things. When it came to making ceramics, she soaked up all the knowledge she could from Aunt Elaine. Joyce was also a gifted seamstress who would make anything from casual wear to formal wear. She took frequent trips to JoAnn's fabric, browsing the patterns and fabrics with her daughter Jonae. Joyce would share her love for sewing and crafting with her kids and grandkids. Once even teaching a few of the grandkids how to make flower pens. She even took them to sell a few times at the farmer's market.
Family meant the world to Joyce . She would frequently take trips to the DMV area to visit her family. It was important to her that she maintain those familial connections and pass them on to her children and grandchildren. If you were riding with Joyce , you never knew where you may end up but you were sure to have a good time. She was the fun on the go Grandma. Rarely sitting in the house. Joyce was always off doing something with either her children, grandchildren, and even cousins. A loved one would always be riding shotgun. Whether it was going to the pool or traveling to D.C, she was sure to be headed out somewhere. Joyce was always ready to go with snacks, her fried chicken, and a few sodas tucked away in her trunk. She had a way of making the most of whatever she had.
In 2010 Joyce suffered a major stroke, but even through her sickness, her love for the Lord and family never wavered. Joyce continued to attend church service in the nursing home. She would continue to give God praise by singing along with visiting guests. Tapping her feet, clapping her hands and swaying her head. Through it all, she still gave God the Glory. She may not have known us all by name but she continued to love on us. She was sure to make you feel good especially if you brought her a Pepsi or some ice cream. You had until the time she finished that Pepsi to get your visit in before she was telling you "ok, see you tomorrow". That was her polite way of telling you she was ready for you to go. She would always give us hugs and kisses and let us know we were a pretty girl or boy. When coming to see her you would be sure to hear her ask "Where is John at? Is John coming today? "Some things never changed, especially John being the apple of her eye.
Joyce was preceded in Glory by her son Tony Comfort Sr.; Her parents, Lawrence Williams Sr. and Jean Payton; siblings, Ronald, Sylvester, Helena, and Juanita Payton.
Joyce leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted husband John T. Comfort Jr., Son Kevin Comfort, Daughter Jonae Mason; Son-in-law James Mason and Daughter-in-Love Angela Ragland.
