Joyce Cornell Fortune Arrington departed this earthly life December 23, 2015 at Martha Jefferson Hospital. She was born May 5, 1941, to the late William Fortune and Ruth Scott Fortune, the second born of five children. She is also preceded in death by her baby brother, Walter "Little Billy". She joined Galilee Baptist Church at an early age. She served God and lived His word with great joy and faith. Joyce served as an usher at Galilee and she was a member of the Angelic Gospel Chorus. She traveled with the chorus up and down the eastern seaboard.
Growing up on a farm, Joyce had a great sense of humor and loved bossing her siblings and as the oldest sister, she made herself boss. She loved farm work, but the only thing she could not boss was a bantam rooster that loved to fight. She graduated from Archie Gibbs Richardson High School in 1958. She worked at Myrna Mills Factory, after graduation, for four years. She met and married Treasure Arrington in 1962. After her marriage she moved to Madison County Virginia where she helped her husband on the family farm and later she was employed by the Madison County School Division for over 30 years. There was not a vehicle with wheels and gears that she could not drive. While living in Madison, Joyce became a watch care member of Blue Run Baptist Church, under the watchful care of Rev. Peggy Brice, in Barboursville, VA. She served as an usher, Sunday school officer, and a member of the Kitchen committee.
Joyce loved to travel. She traveled all over the country, Mexico and Canada with Aunt Sarah Mann. She loved God, both of her families, cookouts, cooking and the outdoors. She would say in January, "Where are we eating Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners this year. I will bring the Mac and Cheese, yams and greens. You all have to cook the rest."
She leaves to cherish her memory, a husband, Treasure Arrington of Madison, VA; a dear brother, Ashland Fortune (Mary) of Louisa; two devoted sisters, Leathrice Price and Lola Richardson (Ted) of Louisa, VA Four nieces that she adored, Darla Price of Colonial Heights, Dianna Smith and Kimberly Fortune of Glen Allen, VA and Tedra Richardson of Louisa, VA; a great nephew, Keith "KJ" Thompson, Jr. and a extended family nephew, Allan Coles, a great niece Kamaya Simone Perry and a extended family niece, Alaina Coles; five nieces and two nephews from her extended families, who she loved dearly as sisters and brothers, Gracie, Georgia, Pam, Dot, Chelsea, James and Allen; four loving aunts, Audrey Perkins, Mary Ann Scott, Elisha Scott, and Leona Johnson all of Louisa, VA; a God daughter, Kelly Booker; two dear and devoted friends Eleanor "Ellen" and her husband William Frye of Madison, VA and a neighbor she thought of as a friend but also as a daughter Alexandra "Yummy" Littlehales of Madison, VA; and a host of extended nieces and nephews.
