Jovon Octavius Burruss (Jo), 23, of Louisa, entered into eternal rest on May 15, 2015 at the University Medical Center. He was born on January 26, 1992 in Charlottesville, Virginia to Jonathan Burruss and Katina Ragland-Dowell. He was educated and a graduate of Louisa County High School, where he was a member of the football and track team. Jovon had recently completed an Auto Body Tech certification from Valley Technical Center in Fishersville, Virginia. He was employed at the University of Virginia Health Care System as a Patient Care Technician in outpatient surgery.
Jo was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and a member of the Charlottesville Silverbacks Semi-Pro Football team. He was a Honda enthusiast that enjoyed working in his "Papa's" (Wesley) body shop on cars. Despite having Celiac Disease, he had an adoration for food disregarding the gluten content.
Jo was known to be either biting his nails, on his phone, planning the next party, or simply falling asleep at any given moment. His contagious smile and straight leg stance are what many will always hold dear in their memories. Jo marched to the beat of his own drum and it was a drum that only he could hear.
Jo is preceded in death by his great grandfather, Apostle Randolph Ragland; grandfather, Charles Burruss and his beloved grandmother, Grace Ragland.
In his transition, Jo leaves to cherish his memories: his parents, Jonathan Burruss (Duska) and Katina Ragland-Dowell (James); his brothers and sisters, Jamar Burruss, Jamal Dowell, Devante Dowell, James Dowell Jr., Makail Johnson, Kellan Williams, Kiara Washington, Lidia Burruss and Maya Burruss; great grandmother, Ruth Winston Ragland; grandparents, Minister Randolph Wesley Ragland (Lois), Sadie Burruss and Joseph Dowell (Doris); aunts, Davina Ragland and Jennifer Burruss; uncles, Kevin Burruss, Joseph Dowell and Joshua Dowell; nephew, Chase Washington Smith; God-Parents, Russell Hubert Jr and Roberta
Cavanaugh; special loved ones, Tracey Smith and her daughter, Jayla Curry. He also leaves to cherish his memory a host of family and friends.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2015 at Temple of Deliverance HCG, 5756 Zachary Taylor Highway, Mineral, Virginia 23117 with Bishop James Ragland officiating. Interment will follow in the Holy Church of the Living God Cemetery, 5442 Columbia Road, Gordonsville, VA 22942.
