Rev. Joseph Jack Yancey was born on March 28, 1961, to the late Robert
Nathaniel Yancey and Lucille Houchens. On Monday, December 18, 2017,
Joseph quietly concluded the journey designed for him on this Earth,
at home, to be at rest for eternity.
He was one of 12 children: five brothers and six sisters. In
addition to his parents, he was preceded in life by two brothers:
Charles and Nathaniel.
While receiving his education in the Louisa County Public Schools, he
became a member of the Rising Sun Baptist Church, where he professed
his belief in Jesus Christ at an early age.
He later furthered his studies at St. Joseph's University and seminary
school. On September 22, 1984, he married the late Doriane Shelton and
from their union there are two children: Kimberly Yancey and Joseph
Yancey, Jr. (Sarah) of Richmond, VA. He pursued his career as an educator
and coach at Louisa County High School. Joseph became a mentor to many
athletes, students and upcoming ministers in the community.
Over the years, Joseph pastored at churches in numerous cities including
Amherst, Culpeper, and Chapel Hill, NC, just to name a few. In recent
times, he would visit many who were sick and shut-in and continued to
deliver God's word.
He leaves cherished memories to his two children: Kimberly and Joseph
Jr. (Sarah) of Richmond VA; sisters: Lucille Shelton,
Shirley Henson, Christine Mack,(Reggie) Carrie Yancey, Fannie Shelton
(George) of Mineral and Gaile Shelton (Dennis) of Richmond, VA;
