John Calvin Wright, Sr. entered into eternal rest on October 4, 2017, at his home while in the care of his loved ones.

He was born to the late John Henry and Edith Wright. He was preceded in death by his sister, Frances of Alexandria VA and his brother, Roy O'Dell of Gadsden AL.

Calvin was married and devoted to his loving wife, Mildred for 63 years. God blessed their union with four children.

He loved the Lord and accepted Him as his personal savior. As a faithful member of the Shady Grove Baptist Church, he served as a deacon and dedicated member of the men's chorus. Throughout the community, he was well known and respected. He retired from Louisa County Public Schools as a maintenance technician and was a self-employed electrician and plumber.

Calvin enjoyed fishing, hunting, and watching the Washington Redskins. He set a great example and took pleasure in spending time with family. With his gentle, kind spirit, he showed his granddaughters that they were special and taught his grandsons to be respectful men. Y

He leaves to cherish his memory the love of his life, Mildred of Orange VA; two daughters, Geraldine Ellis (Robert) of Gordonsville VA and Wilhilmenia Dickerson (Frank) of Gordonsville VA, two sons, John Calvin Jr. (Yinoris) of Williamsburg VA, and Jerry (Judith) of Orange VA; 15 grandchildren;26 great grandchildren; two brothers, James (Carolyn) of Charlottesville VA and Henry (Mary) of Orange VA, one sister-in-law, Rachel of Gadsden AL; two brothers-in-law, Robert Couram and William Ellis Jr.and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.

On Saturday, October 14, 2017, the viewing will begin at 11:30 a.m. with service at 1 p.m. at Shady Grove Baptist Church (21024 Piney Woods Road, Orange VA 22960). Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
