John Ellis "Shorty" Turner, 83 of Charlottesville, VA departed this life at his residence on Monday December 31, 2012. John was born on July 13, 1929 in Buckingham County to the late Moses Turner and Cornelia Brown Turner. He was proceeded in death by three brothers James Earl Turner, Willie Moses Turner and James Henry Turner. Three sisters, Mary Johnson, Beatrice Taylor and Mable Turner and three sons, George L. Turner, Gordon R. Turner and John Ellis Turner Jr.

John is survived by one sister Colista Booker of Dilwyn, VA; one son James W. Turner. Six daughters, Barbara Brown, Martha Jones of Keene, Naasira El-Abdullah of Gordonsville, VA. Linda Carey, Virginia Geter of Charlottesville, VA and Shirley Marie Bama of Baltimore, Md. A host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held noon Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Union Baptist Church Scottsville, VA with Assistant Pastor Eugene Davis officiating.
