John Henry Turtle Shelton III 41, of Louisa departed this life July 26,2009 at 7:40 p.m. after a short battle with cancer. Turtle was born December 13, 1967 to John H. Shelton Jr. and the late Brenda L. Shelton.
He joined the Rising Sun Baptist church at an early age. He worked various jobs until his health failed. In 1995, he was joined in holy matrimony to Emily Burruss.
Turtle was proceeded in death by his loving mother Brenda, grandparents Jordon and Bertha, John Sr. and Gertrude Shelton, aunts Alice Mae, Isabell Mickens, uncles Wilson, Oscar, John and Frances Lee Shelton.
He leaves to cherish his memories a daughter, Brendai Shelton; two sons, DeAndre Syrkes and D'Jon Shelton, IV; a special devoted brother and sister in-law, Calvin and Dreamer Shelton; two devoted sisters, Kimberly(Darrell) Houchens and Shawn(Torrey) Shelton; a special aunt, Gerleen Sawyer, Katherine(Roy), Jessie, Clarissa, Clydenia Shelton, Nellie White(Moses) all of Mineral; uncles, George(Frannie), Tim(Emma), Walter, Albert(Angela), Gregory, Ray Shelton and Philip Mickens, all of Mineral; Larry, Robert(Lisa)and Spurgeon(Mary) of Richmond; Samuel Lewis of Tennessee; four great aunts; four nieces, Shavanti Houchens, Tamera and KeiAjha Shelton and Mia Harris; four nephews, Calvin Shelton Jr., Darrell Houchens Jr., Mario Burruss and Torrey Shelton Jr; in-laws Herman and Betty Burruss; one brother-n-law ,Von Burruss; devoted cousins, Ricky and Gayle, Steven, George Lee and Randy Shelton and Twiglenda Ragland; special cousins (who were raised like brothers and sisters), George Sawyer and Lolita Jackson and a host of cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 31, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Rising Sun Baptist Church, Mineral, Virginia, with the Reverend Joseph Yancey officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
