John ("Johnny") Alan Farrar, born on May 15, 1962, gained his wings on Sunday May 9, 2021 at Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center.
The son of the late James Harry and Willie Hackney Farrar of Kents Store, Virginia, Johnny was preceded in death by his son, Johnathan Antoine Farrar; two sisters: Harriett Jeanette Parrish and Debra Farrar-Jackson; two brothers, James William and Mark Thomas Farrar; a granddaughter, Alexis Thompson.
Johnny came to Christ at an early age where he joined Galilee Baptist Church, Kents Store, VA. He attended Fluvanna County Public Schools and developed a strong and devoted work ethic. Working for a drapery company and Super Fresh grocery store, Johnny was later employed by 7 Eleven as an Assistant Manager for over 22 years. He took pride in his job and touched the lives of all he met. Fostering a special relationship with the store owner and several police officers who frequented the store, Johnny's warm smile was an inviting presence to all he encountered.
A family man who enjoyed spending time with loved ones, he never missed a special moment. An avid cook, Johnny delighted in preparing food for close friends and relatives, or dining at Outback Steakhouse, his favorite restaurant. From his daily phone calls to his daughter Vicki at 6:30am during his morning commute, to his prompt birthday and holiday texts, always sent right after the stroke of midnight, Johnny cherished his family with all of himself. Full of life, Johnny found joy in entertaining and greeted everyone with a huge smile and hearty laugh. He was a car enthusiast and treasured his outings to the race track with his friends. Affectionately known as "Big Daddy" in the community, Johnny was honest, loving, and truly kept it "real." He will forever be remembered and loved by all who knew him.
Johnny was a loving brother to Margie Farrar-Simpson (Ken) and Mary Farrar Grooms (John).
He leaves to cherish his memory, one son, Chay Harris (Jamie); three daughters, Tamisha and Victoria Harris, Latasha Hughes; a devoted partner, Myra Tolliver; a special Brother-in-law, George "Donnie" Parrish; eight grandchildren, Jamar, KeShawn, NyAsia, Makayla, Makyia, JyMeere, Jayden and Peyton; six aunts, Bessie Lucille Bratcher, Mattie Price (Leroy), Veronica Keyes, Lorraine Farrar, Phyllis Hackney, Mattie Hackney; three nieces, Jonnay, Jordan and Janelle; four nephews, Brian, Quentin, Drew and Mark; a great niece, A'Myah Farrar-Jackson; and numerous cousins, relatives and friends.
A precious one from us has gone
A voice we loved is still
A place is vacant in our home
that never can be filled.
The loneliness in our hearts
is more than we can bear
We'll miss you more each day
Since God has called you to His care.
Love,
The Family
