IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John Lee
Coleman
March 4, 1946 – January 17, 2026
When the time comes to bid this life farewell, we should find comfort in knowing that a loving God will be there with us to guide us to our new home.
John Lee Coleman, native and lifelong resident of Bumpass, Virginia, gently passed away on January 17, 2026, just shy of his 80th year. Born on March 4, 1946, to Martha and Irvin Coleman, John's life was firmly rooted in the soil of his beloved hometown. As the poet Robert Frost once wrote, "Home is the place where, when you have to go there, they have to take you in." For John, Bumpass was always that place.
John was a laborer by trade. He worked various jobs such as Superior Manufactory, Tyler Lumber Company, Louisa County Public Schools, Burns Security, Stone & Webster, Atlantic Nuclear Services and Capital Lincoln Mercury before his retirement in 1996. His work in the domestic business sector was not simply a job, but a testament to his diligence, dedication, and commitment to his community.
John was a man of few words, yet his actions spoke volumes about his character. He was someone who chose to express his love for his community and the people in it through his work. As Martin Luther King Jr. eloquently stated, "No work is insignificant. All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence." John embodied these words throughout his life, approaching every task with a level of meticulous care that was truly inspiring. He also Looked forward to listening to Pastor Donald Fells Bible Study on Tuesdays. He enjoyed auto racing, watching wrestling, listening to music and also watching Court TV.John, a man of quiet strength,
He leaves behind sisters, Gloria Coleman, Deborah French (Wilbert); one brother, Alonzo Coleman (Florence); two nieces, Cherritta Dillion and Erika Coleman; one nephew, David Wattie. one great-nephew, Jaheim Maye; and four great-nieces, Jasmine, Julie and Jayla Westbrook, and Raven Wattie. one aunt, Addie Williams and a host of devoted relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Martha and Irvin Coleman; three of his brothers, Aulton, Jessie and Herman; and one god-brother, Kincaid Coleman.
His absence leaves a void in our hearts, but his memory continues to inspire us. As we remember John, let us celebrate his life and honor his legacy by embodying the qualities that defined him - diligence, dedication, and a deep love for his community. We invite you to share your memories, stories, and photos of John on his memorial page.
Your tributes will serve as a comforting reminder of the impact he had on all who were fortunate enough to know him. As we mourn the loss of John Lee Coleman, let us also celebrate the remarkable life he lived and the profound ways in which he touched our lives.
