We're all here today because our lives have been touched by Jesse James Johnson Sr.  The longer you knew him, the more you realized how remarkable of a man he was, how remarkable a servant, how devoted to his family, how loyal to his friends, how faithful to God, and how available he was to literally anyone who needed help.  One of the highest compliments you can give a man is the most simple thing to say and powerful when it's said in earnest:  "He's a good man." Jesse was a good man.  Jesse was a great man and loved by all who knew him. On  Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at UVA Hospital in Charlottesville, Va. God  saw that this good man was getting weary, so he did what he knew was best, he came and stood beside our dear Jesse and whispered come and rest.

Jesse James Johnson Sr. was born on June 25,1943 and was the son of the late O'Neal And Bessie Johnson of Bumpass, VA. He was one of 12 children. He was preceded in death by his Parents, four Sisters Barbara Johnson, Sharon Johnson, Rosa Smith, and Louise Austin, and Three brothers Preston Coleman, Edward Johnson, and Roy Johnson.

Jesse accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his savior and was baptized at Mt. Garland Baptist Church in Bumpass, VA at an early age and later became a member of Laurel Hill Baptist Church in Mineral, VA. He faithfully served as Chairman of the Deacons Ministry, a member of the Senior Choir, Male Chorus, and Praise Team, as well as Chairman of the Cemetery Ministry and devoted Sunday School and Bible study member.  He also served as the Sunday School bus driver and enjoyed picking up the children in the community for Sunday school. He founded and loved the Spirit of Bumpass Quartet Ministry and led several generations of singers and musicians in worshipping and praising through song for over 50 years. And he also served in the Louisa Temple Lodge 113 for over 50 years.

He attended Louisa County school  and received his GED. He retired from Dominion Energy (North Anna Power Plant) after 43 years.

Jesse enjoyed fishing, watching his Dallas Cowboys on the field, good gospel quartet music, and of course we all can attest to his love for singing. He also enjoyed making memories with the love of his life for 53 years, Virginia, spending time with his children and grandchildren, talking on the phone with his sisters and brothers, and cutting up with his in-laws.

He leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted wife, Virginia Johnson of Mineral VA. Three daughters Jeanette Yancey (Dwight) of Newark, DE, Joyce Johnson-Allen of Mineral, VA, Anna Day (Charles) of Richmond, VA, Five sons, Spencer Johnson (Deborah) of Spotsylvania, VA, John Johnson of Bumpass, VA, Jesse Johnson Jr. of Wilson, NC, Christopher Johnson Sr. of Mineral, VA, Artist Johnson of Mineral VA. One brother Gurney Johnson (Daphne) of Richmond, VA, Three Sisters Lucille Waddy of Mineral, VA, Mary Thaniel of Richmond, VA, Josephine Brooks of Mineral, VA.; Four Brothers in Love James Henry Johnson of Mineral VA, Page Johnson Sr. of Bumpass VA, Daniel Johnson (Daphne) of Glen Allen, VA., Charles Johnson of Washington, DC. Two Sisters in Love Kathryn Johnson of Mineral, VA, Barbara Collins (Walter) of Mineral, VA, 16 Grandchildren, 15 Great-Grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

One of Jesse's favorite sayings was "Must Jesus bear the cross alone, And all the world go free? No, there's a cross for everyone, And there's a cross for me."

*FOR YOUR SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF THOSE IN ATTENDANCE, MASKS AND/OR SHIELDS MUST BE WORN TO ENTER THE CHURCH. Again, God bless each of you. "" And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. " 1John 4:16
