Deacon Jesse James Farmer, Sr., 75, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, December 16, 2009. He was born on January 28, 1934, a son of the late Henry and Ethel Farmer. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Virginia W. Farmer, one sister, Florine, three brothers, Moses, Lewis, and Charles Farmer.
He graduated from Louisa Training School and served in the United States Army. He retired from the Madison Mills Steel Company after many years of service. Deacon Farmer was a faithful member of Mt. Gilliam New Site Baptist Church in Louisa, Virginia as well as an active member of the community.
Deacon Farmer leaves to cherish his memories, a son, Jesse Farmer, Jr., Louisa, Virginia.; a nephew, Master Sergeant Anthony Waddy, Konar, Afghanistan; two grandchildren, Ryan West and Alexius Houchens of Louisa, Virginia; three brothers, Henry Farmer, Washington, D.C., Robert Farmer, Louisa, Virginia and John Farmer, Sr., and his wife, Reverend Lila B. Farmer, Charlottesville, Virginia; four sisters-in-law, Reverend Virginia Farmer and Josie Waddy, Mineral, Virginia, Etta Farmer, Richmond, Virginia, and Mary Waddy, Washington, D.C.; a brother-in-law, Roland Waddy; a friend and caregiver, Mary Mallory and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 pm, Monday, December 21, 2009 at Thomasson Watson Funeral Chapel 117 West Street, Louisa, Virginia. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at 1 pm at the Mt. Gilliam New Site Baptist Church, 2212 Mansfield Road, Mineral, Virginia with the Rev. Louis Collins officiating. Burial, with Masonic rites and military honors will follow in the church cemetery.
