Jerome Aristotle Tyler, Sr. entered his eternal rest on Sunday, May 26, 2013 at his residence. He was the son of the late Albert M. Tyler, Sr. and Katie Vest Tyler.
Jerome accepted Christ as his personal saviour at an early age and was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Columbia, Virginia. He was preceded in the death by his parents, two brothers, Ronald Tyler and Cecil Tyler and a grandson, Aris Jerome Tyler.
Jerome was educated in the Goochland County Public School System. As a young adult, he met and married Barbara Lewis and from that union they had two children, Jerome and Angela. He later married Joyce Thompson and from that union they had one child, Tonya.
Jerome worked for Yellow Cab & Company for over 20 years until he left to pursue his passion, his great love of cars. He established and took great pride in his business, J&J Auto Sales, in which he serviced the neighborhood and surrounding counties for over 20 years.
Jerome is survived by his devoted wife of 35 years; Joyce, one son; Jerome A. Tyler, Jr. (Linda) of Columbia, Virginia, two daughters; Angela Whindleton (Dion) of Zion Crossroads, Virginia and Tonya Foster (Steven) of Palmyra, Virginia, four granddaughters; Diara Tyler, Diondra Whindleton, Terra Foster and Stephanie Foster, one sister; Blanche Williams of Columbia, Virginia, two brothers; Albert Tyler, Jr. (Delores) of Columbia, Virginia and Oliver Tyler (Nilsa) of Elmont, New York, two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law; Mary White, Barbara Scott, and Fred Thompson, Jr. of Charlottesville, Virginia, five devoted caregivers; Delores Tyler, Anita Williams, Mary White, Thomas Morris and Debra Taylor and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2013 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church 3845 Shannon Hill Road Columbia, VA 23038 with viewing from 11 a.m. until service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
