We joyfully celebrate the life of Janice Watson Shaw, born on July 2, 1933, in Andrew, SC to the late Norris and Millie Watson. A spirited and dedicated woman, Janice made an incredible mark in the lives of all who knew her. She was known for her radiant spirit and unwavering faith, living out her favorite scripture, Matthew 6:33, "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." Her love for the Lord was evident through her service in the church choir and her daily life.
Janice married Jacob Shaw in January 1956 and from this union three children were born, Sharon, Jacob Jr., and Cynthia, and an adopted son Darren. She was a resilient woman who, after retiring from her nursing career in New York, she and Jacob moved to High Point, North Carolina, where she continued to enrich her community with her loving nature. She had a passion for gardening, took delight in long walks in her neighborhood, and cherished the times spent talking with friends and family. She also found joy in reading her Bible daily. Her resilient spirit, dedication, and love were a testament to her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ.
Janice leaves behind a legacy of love carried on by her children Sharon (Tyrone) Wade, Cynthia Riggs, and Darren Shaw; her grandchildren Andrew (Emily) Riggs, James Riggs, David (Karen) Wade, Krystil (Eric) Irvin, Tyrone (Jennifer) Wade Jr., Jannis Shaw, Chiantis Shaw, Jacob Shaw III, and Zhaquita Palmer; her great-grandchildren Micah Wade, Alana Wade, Brielle Irvin, Jasmyn Irvin, Tyrone Wade III, and Evan Wade. She is also survived by her brothers Jerome (Debra) Watson, Cornelius Watson, Deles Watson, Raphel Watson, and her sister Mikell (Charles) Hughes. Janice has been reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Jacob Shaw (2013), her son Jacob Shaw, Jr. (2005), and her parents, Norris and Millie Watson. She is also reunited with her siblings Selles Watson, Keller Watson, Hosea Watson, Ogar Watson, Hamon Watson, Loris Watson, and Edna Watson.
We invite you to join us as we celebrate her life on Monday, March 10, 2025, at Green Street Baptist Church, 303 N Rotary Drive, High Point, North Carolina, 27262.
The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 am followed by a celebration of life service at 11:00 am.
