When the time comes to bid this life farewell, we should find comfort in knowing that a loving God will be there with us to guide us to our new home.
Janice Louise Henson, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, companion, and friend, peacefully departed this life on September 15, 2026. Born on May 10, 1957, Janice leaves behind a beautiful legacy of faith, love, family, creativity, and cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Janice was devoted to the Lord. She attended Springfield Baptist Church, Gordonsville, VA until her health began to decline. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she carried that love of God with her throughout her journey.
Family was at the center of Janice’s heart. She cherished every opportunity to bring her loved ones together and was known for hosting family gatherings, celebrations, and holidays. Her home was a place where love, laughter, fellowship, and good food was always abundant. Janice was especially known for her home cooking and the warmth she shared through every meal she prepared.
Janice also found joy in creativity and the beauty of making things with her own hands. She loved gardening, enjoyed macramé, and took a delight in creating pottery. Through these passions, she expressed the creativity and love that were such a special part of who she was.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents, William and Evelyn Washington; grandparents, Brasco and Mildred Washington; sons, Purnell Washington and Juma Henson; sister, Justine Washington; brother, Robert Washington; and brother-in-law, Kevin Mellette.
Janice will forever live in the hearts of her beloved companion, George Murray, Louisa, VA; her children, Joy Smith (DaVell), Louisa, VA; Andre Henson, Milwaukee, WI; and Sherrie Henson, Louisa, VA; her grandchildren, Daisha Henson, Carrington Smith, Alayah Ali, Cason Henson (all of Louisa, VA); Jade Grooms, Gordonsville, VA; Purnell Washington, Jr. and Samiya Washington (Greensboro, NC); McKenzie Berry, Charlottesville, VA; and Sahara Davis, Staunton, VA.
She will also be lovingly remembered by her sisters, Priscilla Mellette, Troy, VA; Collette Washington, Charlottesville, VA; Veronica Hester (Sherman), Troy, VA; and Carolyn Washington, Louisa, VA; her brother, William Washington, Jr., Scottsville, VA; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Although Janice is no longer with us in physical form, the love she gave, the lives she touched, the meals she prepared, the gatherings she hosted, and the memories she created will remain forever. Her family finds comfort in knowing that her legacy of love and faith will live on forever.
To the Henson family, we at D. D. Watson offer our most sincere sympathy and condolences. Our prayer continues to be that your abiding faith in God will bring you comfort that will strengthen and sustain you during your time of sorrow.
It is during such times as these that we draw upon our faith, stand upon our scriptures, and rely upon our God. There is no question that in this and through this, God will keep you, comfort you, and sustain you. You and your family are forever in our prayers.
