James Tyler, 86, of Mineral, Virginia died Sunday, June 22, 2008 at his resident. James Tyler was born May 12, 1922 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late James Tyler, Sr. and Minne Tyler.
Mr. Tyler was a graduate of the Philadelphia School System; he then joined the army in 1943 and served until his honorable discharge in 1946. He then went on work for the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard where he retired after 30 years of faithful service. In June of 1970, he fathered his only daughter, Deitra. He then moved to Louisa, VA in 1977 where he began working for the Louisa County Public Schools. He was loved by many and would spend most of his days at the Amoco Gas Station "shootin' the breeze." He also had a love for hats; he never left home without one.
Mr. Tyler leaves to cherish his memories: daughter, Deitra Min Gadson of Linwood, N. J.; four grandchildren, Donyae Lynn Woods, Dontay Lamar Scott, Deisha Rochell Scott, and Daysha Delores Dean Scott; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many many dear friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. at the Thomasson Watson Funeral Chapel, 117 West Street, Louisa, Virginia with the Reverend Sharon Roberts officiating. By request of Mr. Tyler, his remains will be cremated and returned to family in his native city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
