James Edward Sawyer, of Louisa, Virginia, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday,
May 17, 2011, at the Louisa Health Care Center in Louisa County, Virginia. He
was born December 29, 1945, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of the late
Elsie Fannie Henson Sawyer and Leroy Sawyer.
James attended Louisa County Public Schools. At an early age, he joined Rising
Sun Baptist Church in Mineral, Virginia.
He met and married the late Barbara Moore Sawyer on November 22, 1968.
From this union, one daughter was born, Tywanda Gail Sawyer Carter.
James held a number of jobs until he retired at Woodland in Louisa County,
Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Elsie Fannie Henson Sawyer and father, Leroy Sawyer, his wife, Barbara Moore Sawyer, a brother, George Sawyer, and a brother-in-law, Henry Lewis Moore, Jr. and father-in-law, Henry Moore, Sr.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his only daughter, Tywanda Gail Sawyer Carter and two
grandsons, Marco Carter and Byran Carter of Hyattsville, Maryland, three
brothers, Leroy (Sandra) Sawyer of Lanham, Maryland, Linwood (Yvonne)
Sawyer of Spotsylvania, Virginia, Joseph (Louise) Sawyer of Fort Washington,
Maryland, mother-in-law, Julia Moore of Mineral, Virginia, four sister-in-laws,
Geraldine Sawyer of Louisa, Virginia, Emma (Charles) Moody of Oxen Hill,
Maryland, Teresa Moore (Melvin) Courtney of King George, Virginia, Sandra (Leroy)
Sawyer of Lanham, Maryland, 2 brothers-in-law, Michael Moore of
Waynesboro, Virginia, Alvin (Janice) Moore of Mineral, Virginia, a devoted
friend, Rita Hunter, devoted niece, Lolita Sawyer, devoted nephew, George
Sawyer, two special relatives who were like parents, Alice and Eugene Houches and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, May 21, 2011 at the Thomasson Watson Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Joseph Yancey officiating. Interment will follow in the Henson Family Cemetery, Mineral,VA.
