Deacon James M. Hairston, Sr., 75, of Mineral, died January 20, 2010. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years,Sarah Ann Tyree Hairston. James was the third eldest of seven children born to the late Lucille Justine Hairston. He was educated in the Louisa County Public School System and later moved to Washington, D.C. where he graduated from the Cortez Peters School for Business. While in Washington, D.C. he met and married the love of his live, Sarah Ann Tyree which lasted until her death in 2007. To this union were born, Sharon, James Jr., and Stacey. James enlisted in the United States Air Force and proudly served four years as an Air Police. After his honorable discharge he joined the Federal Government as a federal police officer and retired after 25 years as a captain. In 1991, he and Sarah returned to Cuckoo, Virginia and joined the Jerusalem Baptist Church. He was a Deacon and leader. Deacon Hairston was preceded in death by his daughter, Sharon, and wife Sarah. James leaves to cherish his memories, his son, James Jr. and his wife Michelle; his daughter Stacey and her husband, Greg; nine grandchildren; three great-grand children; 6 brothers, Edison, Jerome, Allen, Tommy and Brent; one sister Gean, and a host of nieces, nephews, close family and friends. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. on Monday, January 25, 2010, Thomasson Watson Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at Philipi Christian Church, 7133 Jefferson Highway (RR22), Mineral, VA. with the Rev. Virginia Farmer, officiating. Interment will follow in Jerusalem Baptist Church, 608 Mansfield Road, Louisa, Virginia.
