James Russell Brice was called home by God on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Louisa Health & Rehabilitation Center. He was one of four siblings born to Molly Powell Brice and Charlie Lee Brice on August 30, 1923 in Louisa County and was preceded in death by one brother, William Lee Brice. Due to the premature death of his mother and father, he was raised by his paternal grandfather, Edward H. Powell.

Russell Brice was an active member of Zion Travelers Baptist Church where he was a member of the senior choir and served as an usher. During his lifetime he worked as a logger and cook at Holland Brothers Logging Company. Later he was an employee at Herndon Brothers Pontiac in Gordonsville, Virginia where he acquired his lifelong passion for cars. Even as a senior citizen, he never stopped working and continued staying active by assisting his wife in the tailoring and sewing business they ran at their home.

In 1944 Russell was united in holy matrimony to Martha Bell Morris of Louisa County and together they had two children: Martha Ann Waddy and James Corrie Brice and wife Pat. In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by eight grandchildren: Shawn and wife Diana, Mandy, Nicole, Andrea and husband Danny, Cheryl, Lisa, Joyce, Dawn and husband David; a host of great and great great grandchildren; two sisters: Virginia Wilson in Georgia and Lucy Roland in Pennsylvania; close friends Earl Burton and Calvin Morris and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other devoted friends.

Russell's favorite past times included showing his classic cars, driving his cars in parades, and gardening. In his early years he was an avid sportsman and loved hunting with his son and wife's father, C.K. Morris, Sr. Russell and his wife Martha were very active in local politics. He was always available to his many family and friends for emotional and financial support, running errands and "just shooting the breeze."

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at the Zion Travelers Baptist Church with the Reverend Austin Bates, officiating. Family visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday at Thomason Watson Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
