Irving J. Washington , of Louisa, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 12, 2020, at the age of 94.

He was born in Washington, D.C., at Freedmen's Hospital on September 7, 1926. He was the firstborn of the late Irving and Earlena Washington and the eldest of five siblings.

Mr. Washington was a longtime resident of Louisa and retired from the Louisa County Public School system after 30 years of service. He became one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1957 and was an active member of the local congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses in Gordonsville, VA.

He was a dedicated husband and father and enjoyed playing the piano, vacationing with family and friends, traveling to various tropical islands, deciphering word games, and solving puzzles. He especially valued sharing time with his beloved wife of 54 years, six children, 19 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and many dear friends. He was educated at Howard University and pursued a Doctor of Pharmacy degree. He will always be remembered for his love of studying and teaching the Bible, dignified and quiet demeanor, elegant speech, warm smile, and kind spirit.

He is preceded in death by his father, Irving J. Washington, Sr.; mother, Earlena Washington; siblings, Earl Washington and Geraldine Wright; wife, Mary Louise Washington; son, Barrett R. Washington; daughter, Donna L. Ross, and sons-in-law, Wilson Ross and Harold Derricott. He is survived by brothers; Elon Washington, Richard Washington; sister, Mabel Randall; daughters, Carla R. Derricott, Sharon L. Minor (Paul), Jeana L. Quarles (Michael); son Tremele G. Washington (Ann); daughter-in-law Karin Washington; grandchildren, Germane, Rhonda, Robbie, Lynnice, Brandon, Daniel, Michael, Divonya, Ryan, Allen, Jazmine, Derek, Ashley, Travis, Cortni, Brittany, Chasidy, Jordan and Zoria along with his great-grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 24, 2020, via Zoom videoconferencing.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, administrators and staff at the Medical Associates of Louisa, UVA Hospital and The Harbor at Renaissance facility for their professionalism, expertise, care, and support during his illness.
