Inez Mae (Scott) Poindexter, 90, entered into eternal rest to be with the Lord on December 30, 2014. She died peacefully at home surrounded by her family. Inez was born August 11, 1924, to the late John Willie Scott and late Bessie Parrish Scott, of Kents Store, Virginia.
She was a member of the Galilee Baptist Church. She later joined the Evergreen Bible Way Church family in Louisa, Virginia under the leadership of the late Elder Joseph Grooms and his successor, Elder Steve Mason. She was a "born-again" believer and remained faithful to God. She was a loyal church member and usher. Sometime later she used her God-given talent and sang with her daughters; Virgie Shelton and Della Maxine Griffin. The trio formed a singing group called the Poindexter Singers, singing as far North as White Plains, NY and every state down South as far as TN, and westward in West VA and Cincinnati, OH.
Inez is preceded in death by her beloved husband: the late Mack Poindexter; five sisters and their husbands, Susie (Rev. Patrick) Mansfield, Lucille (Robert) Scott, Helen (Allen) Brice, Virginia Scott, and Anna Bell Scott; her youngest son, Clifton Poindexter and two son-in-laws, the late Percy Haden and Clarence "Leroy" Shelton.
Inez leaves to cherish her precious memories two sons: Curtis (Edna) Poindexter of Troy, VA, and Mack (Ramona) Poindexter, Jr. of Trevilians; four daughters, Virgie Shelton of ENVOY in Goochland, VA, Della "Maxine" (Leonard) Griffin of Petersburg, VA, Priscilla (Min. Lawrence) Henson of Kents Store, VA and Lucille (Lawrence) Randolph of Charlottesville, VA. ;Ten grandchildren, Elmo Shelton, Stephanie Poindexter, Stephanie Haden, Curtis Poindexter, Jr., Kevin Poindexter, Pamela Lindsay, Antonio "Van" Shelton, Alphonzo "Jack" Anderson, Nicole "Nikki" Poindexter and Clifton "CJ" Poindexter Jr.; Six nieces; Mary Arrington, Joan Brice, Shelia Morton, Lisa Henson, Sandra Henson and Karen Shepard; Six nephews; Patrick Mansfield, Jr., Spurgeon Mansfield, McLloyd Mansfield, Harold "Sonny" Bratcher, Johnny Bratcher, Michael Scott and Reek Henson, 19 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren and one on the way, and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 a 1 PM at Evergreen Bible Way Church, 1576 Evergreen Road, Louisa, VA 23093 with the Reverend Lawrence Henson as Eulogist. Viewing will be available one hour prior to service. Interment will follow in the Galilee Baptist Church Cemetery.
