IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Hyland Edward
Simms
July 4, 1932 – April 8, 2018
Life began for Hyland E. Simms on July 4, 1932 in the small community of "Cutalong" Trevilians Virginia.
Hyland began his unique work history at the age of 18 as a school bus driver and ended at the age of 82 as a student transportation driver with the same employer, Louisa county public schools.
Being an accomplished commercial driver, Hyland also held positions as a milk truck driver, dump truck driver and cement truck driver.
During his journey
As a young adult, he met and married Helen l. Davis. Even though the union did not last, the success of it was measured with the birth of his only child, Theresa {Resa} Deneen Simms.
In his early retirement years, Hyland enjoyed fishing and later playing pool at the senior center. His nightly visits with his sister, and her family became his routine. Talking with his many, many friends was a constant source of joy.
His family
He was born to his now deceased parents, Edward and Janie F. Simms. His wife, Patricia D. Simms; siblings, Sarah James, Andrew Williams and Westavelt Williams preceded him in death. Hyland was blessed with close relationships with Georgia Ellen White, Sarah Elizabeth Williams and Mamie Johnson. They also preceded him in death.
His love was far reaching and will forever be in the hearts of his daughter, Theresa; granddaughter, Tiffani and great granddaughter, Britain. Also surviving him are: his sister, Sophia Quarles; nieces, Gayle (Michael), Lori (Tommy) and Hope (Charles); nephews, Carrington, Mark, and Shawn. As Theresa was growing up, she was surrounded by an extended family of brothers and sisters who were the children of Georgia Ellen White. Even though time and distance have separated them, they still remember the joys of childhood together.
His journeys end
Sunday evening, April 8, 2018, Hyland passed away at his home, ending his 85-year walk on this earth. We thank God for his goodness and mercy. We had daddy for a season but God has him for eternity.
