Hollis Edward Pendleton, 91, son of the late Hollis R. and Rosa P. Pendleton was called into eternal rest on Tuesday, October 21, 2014.
He was born December 3, 1922, in Louisa County. At a young age, he joined First Baptist Church in Louisa, VA. He graduated from Louisa County Training School and enlisted in the US Army. A World War II Veteran, he proudly served our country from 1943 to 1946. Edward married Arnell Susie Scott on December 24,1948. They were married for thirty-eight years prior to his wife Arnell's passing in 1986. They were blessed with one child, a loving, devoted, daughter, Peggy P. Bruce. "Ed" was an active VFW member for many years. He retired from Dominion Virginia Power in 1984.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Arnell S. Pendleton; mother, Rosa P. Pendleton; father, Hollis R. Pendleton, and sister, Margaret P. Thweatt.
He is survived by his daughter, Peggy P. Bruce and son-in-law, James H. Bruce ("Ted") of Earlysville, VA; grandchildren, Davra Y. Miller and husband Anthony, of Earlysville, VA and JaMar A. Bruce of Charlottesville, VA; great-grand daughters, Kayce Arnell Miller and Peri Alexis Miller; two sisters, Roberta P. Bracey of Smithfield, VA and Shirley P. Roberts and husband Chambois of Boydton, VA; nephew, Stanley L. Thweatt of Chesterfield, VA; four sisters-in-law, Mary Scott, Audrey Perkins, Elisha Scott and Leona Johnson, all of Louisa, VA; and loyal in-home care givers and friends, Edna Holt and Nancy Trice, both of Louisa, VA. The family would also like to extend heart-felt thanks to family friends John Trice, of Louisa, VA and Robert Winston of Troy, VA.
Special thanks to Louisa Health and Rehabilitation Center and Hospice House of Charlottesville, VA who cared for him throughout the final days of his life.
The funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, October 26, at First Baptist Church in Louisa, VA. Interment will follow in Galilee Baptist Church with military honors, where he will be laid to rest beside his beautiful, wife Arnell. Family and friends are welcome to extend their sympathies from 1 – 7 pm, Saturday, at Thomasson Watson Funeral Chapel and there will also be viewing one hour before service at First Baptist Church.
