Herbert General Talley (high pocket), departed this life after a brief illness on March 26, 2015, at University of Virginia hospital in Charlottesville VA. Herbert was born in Mineral VA on July 9, 1929 to the late David Carter and Lucille Talley.
Herbert attended the Louisa County Public Schools, and enjoyed playing baseball, where he loved telling the story how he would hit the home run and lose the ball every time. He joined Jerusalem Baptist Church at an early age, where he served as a faithful member until his health began to fail. Herbert worked many years for Mo & Kelly in Culpepper, Va. and continued his life journey working for Eddie Chewning Sawmill in Orange VA. until he retired.
Sisters, Mabelle Adams, Lillian Nelson, and LuLua Mae Talley and brothers Purcell Talley and Linwood (Jr.) Talley precede Herbert in death.
He leaves to cherish his memories: a loving and devoted wife of 61 years, Lucy Blanch Talley. They were blessed with 9 children, 2 of whom are deceased, Shirley Ann Talley Johnson and Sherman Talley (squeakie). Surviving are: 2 daughters, Charlotte and Sheree Talley of Mineral VA; 5 sons, Herman (Bossie) and David Talley of Mineral VA, Herbert (Baby lee), Therman (Gerald), and Corey (CT) Talley all of Spotsylvania VA; two surviving sisters, Hilda Talley of Fredericksburg and Deloris Jackson of Washington DC; 2 brothers, Phillip and Elwood Talley of Spotsylvania VA; 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grand children, a loving and devoted granddaughter, Sherenna Richardson, who cared and helped take care of him until the lord called him home; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. on Monday, March 30, 2015 at Thomasson Watson Chapel.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at Branch Fork Baptist Church, 6930 Stubbs Bridge Road, Unionville, VA 22567 with Rev. Virginia Farmer officiating. Interment will follow in the Jerusalem Baptist Church Cemetery, 608 Mansfield Road Louisa, VA 23093
