Herbert Matthew Jones, passed away peacefully at his home in Mineral, Virginia on Thursday, September 3, 2009 at 9:30 p.m. after a brief illness. He was one of six children born to Alice J. Jones and the late Sam Jones, Jr.

"Buck" as he was affectionately known was born July 23, 1938, in Louisa County. He received his education at the Louisa County Public Schools.

Buck was a hard working farmer working from sun up to sun down. After his retirement, one of his favorite pastimes was hanging out with friends at Dickinson's Store or riding with his special cousin, Kelly. If Buck was not doing one of those, one would find him sitting under a shade tree playing dominoes.

At an early age, "Buck" joined Peach Grove Baptist Church under the pastorate of the Reverend William Green. Buck was married to the former Margaret A. Farmer. To this union there were two children, Patrick and Shelia.

Buck was preceded in death by two sisters, Lillian Deloris Jones and Doris Dean Lewis; two brothers, Samuel David Jones and Henry Lee Jones.

Buck leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Margaret; son, Patrick O'Neal Jones (Chris) of Aiken, SC; daughter, Sheila J. Coleman (Gerald) of Mineral, VA; his mother, Alice Jones of Louisa, VA; three grandchildren, William and Tamike Gentry, and Windell Minor; eight great grandchildren and one god child, Ryan Jackson; one sister, Marilyn J. Woodfolk (Emanuel) of Keswick; two aunts, Alice K. Jones and Anita Thurston; five sisters-n-law, Doris Wimbish, Shirley Brandon, Henrietta Evans, Bernice Morris and Stephanie Farmer; five brothers-n-law, Paul Lewis, Sr., Preston Farmer, Jr., Randolph Evans, Doug Wimbish, and Tree Brandon and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at Peach Grove Baptist Church, Louisa, Virginia with interment in the Jones Family Cemetery.
