Herbert Winkfield Burgess, Jr, 45, died Saturday, September 4, 2010, at the University of Virginia Medical Center. He was born November 16, 1964, in Charlottesville, Virginia to Herbert W. Burgess, Sr. and Emma Catherine Burruss Burgess. Herbert was affectionately known by two nicknames, "Musty" and "House Cat."

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Joseph and Sylvia Burgess, his maternal grandparents, Linwood and Sadie Burruss, and his uncle Carl Burgess. Herbert attended Louisa County Public Schools.

He is survived by his parents Herbert W. and Emma C. Burgess; four sisters, Kathleen Carter and her husband Herbert, Deborah Holt and husband Irvin, Sylvia Burgess and husband Floyd all of Louisa, and Janie Johnson and husband James of Charlottesville. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Donnie Burgess and wife Carla, Jermaine Scott, Jerome and Josh Johnson, Janay Burgess and Brittany Johnson; one uncle, Joe Burgess and wife Mary; aunts, Mattie Erkard, Linda Bishop and husband Roy, Fannie Bishop, Julia Grooms and Sara Burgess; two great aunts, Lorraine Johnson and Gladys Johns; a devoted friend, Alvin "Sam" Christmas; six great nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, September 9, 2010, at Thomasson Watson Funeral Chapel, 117 West Street Louisa, VA with Elder Steve Mason officiating. Interment will follow in the Ragland Family Cemetery.
