Helen Mae Hunter of Spotsylvania, Virginia departed this life on May 10, 2011, at Stafford Hospital, Stafford, Virginia. She was born on February 2, 1939 to the late Howard Samuel Hunter and Rebecca Hunter.

She was educated in Louisa County High Schools. She joined Rising Sun Baptist Church at an early age. She was employed by David C. Wilson Hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia and worked there until retirement.

Helen was preceded in death by her mother and father, Howard and Rebecca Hunter; brother, William Louis Hunter and sister, Marian Hunter. She leaves to cherish her memories, six children, Jimmy Desper (Marcel), Forestville, MD, Gracie Coleman (Tony), Spotsylvania, VA, Dorethea Desper, Charlottesville, VA, Robert Desper, Jr. (Jacqueline), Richmond, VA, Brenda Desper, Mechanicsville, MD and Tjuana Desper, St. Leonard, MD; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy Desper, Louisa, VA, Marie Davis (Ruby), Louisa, VA and Fannie Shelton (Bob), Mineral, VA; three brothers, Howard Hunter (Willie), Louisa, VA, Thomas Hunter (Rosetta), Louisa, VA and Linwood Sawyer (Yvonne), Spotsylvania, VA; one aunt, Martha Shelton; one uncle, Phil Mickens and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 15, 2011 at Rising Sun Baptist Church, 2869 Fredericks Hall Road, Mineral VA. The Reverend Arthur Lee will be officiating and Reverend Frederick Sales will serve as eulogist. Interment will follow services in the Spring Grove Memorial Cemetery, Mineral, Virginia.
