On August 8, 2008, Hazel Walker Spellman entered the gates of the New Jerusalem from the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville, VA. Born, October 27, 1943 in Fort Gaines, GA, she later moved to Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Where she grew up and attended public schools there. She attended Norfolk State University. A member of the Galilee Baptist Church in Ferncliff, VA, she was active in all phases of spiritual work.
She leaves behind to keep bright her memory her husband, Rev. Otis Spellman, pastor of Galilee Baptist Church, Ferncliff, VA; 3 daughters, Jacqueline of Charlottesville, VA, and Veronica and Sanada Spellman of Kents Store, VA; 3 grandchildren, LaQuinta, Sherita and Qwenton Spellman; 1 great granddaughter, Diamoni Spellman; 2 sisters, Raymell Cannon and Charlotte McKinnon of Asbury Park, NJ; 3 sisters-in-law, Kristian Spellman of Norfolk, Virginia; Lizzie Walker of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; and Mamie Spellman of Arlington, Virginia; stepmother-in-law, Shirley Spellman of Norfolk, VA; 2 brothers-in-law, Rev. Robert Spellman and wife, Rev. Beulah Spellman of Waynesboro, Virginia and Melvin Spellman and wife, Jennifer of Denver, CO.
She was preceded in death by one son, Matthew Otis Spellman, her parents, Rev. Raymond Walker and Gertrude Hill Walker; 3 brothers, Harry Walker, Raymond Walker and Lonester Walker; 4 sisters, Gwendolyn Chance, Eloise Leonard, Ollie Wright, and Helen Johnson.
A Family Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. at Thomasson Watson Funeral Chapel on Friday, August 15, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, August 16, 2008 at the Galilee Baptist Church at Ferncliff., Virginia located at the intersection of RR 208 and 250 in Louisa County. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Rev Dr. Frederick Jones will serve as the eulogist with Rev. Jesse Jones, presiding.
