Hazel J. Moss passed peacefully away on Thursday July 4, 2013, at Mary Washington Hospital in
Fredericksburg, Virginia.

Born June 3, 1929 in Louisa, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late John F. Johnson and Irene Woodley Johnson.

At an early age, Mrs. Moss accepted Christ and joined the Laurel Hill Baptist Church, Louisa, VA. After marrying and moving to the Partlow community with her husband, she dedicated herself to the First New Hope Baptist Church. She gave a lifetime of service to God, family, and community. Mrs. Moss graduated from the Louisa Training School, which was through 1953, the school in Louisa County for African-American students. She became a substitute school teacher in Louisa County and eventually retired as a school bus driver for Spotsylvania County Public Schools. Divinely insightful, Mrs. Moss was a virtuous
woman who always enjoyed helping others.

Mrs. Moss was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 63 years, Rev. Ernest Moss; sisters, Susie
Goldstein and Ellaree Johnson; brothers Roy, Merrell, Lawrence, Walter, Napoleon, Alfred, and Jasper Johnson.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory: a daughter, Mrs. Hazel Putty and son-in-law James Putty of
Spotsylvania, VA; son Erskine B. Moss of Calvert County, MD; daughter Princess R. Moss of Richmond, VA; a sister, Bertha Wood of Washington, DC; a brother, Lenwood Johnson of Trevilians, VA; four grandchildren; and many other caring relatives and friends.

Mrs. Moss was known for her good cooking and her strong faith. You'd often hear her testifying of the goodness of her creator or singing a special hymn, Blessed Assurance or His Eye Is On the Sparrow, while she made an afternoon meal.

Funeral services will be held Saturday July 13 at 11:00 a.m. at the First New Hope Baptist Church, Partlow VA with interment at the Moss Family Cemetery,Spotsylvania, VA.
