On Tuesday, February 12, 2013, Hazel Odessa Houchens, 76, our dear Mother, departed this life at her home, the Charnwood Forest Asst. Living, Richmond, Va. She was born on February 7, 1937, the only daughter of the late Alice E. Houchens.

Hazel joined the Ebenezer Baptist Church at an early age, later she moved her membership to the Mt. Garland Baptist where she loved working as an Usher and other various programs in the Church. She was educated in the Louisa County Public School System.

Her memories will be cherished by her four children: Beverly, Wallace (Karen), Marthelia, and Josephine Briley (Franklin) of Richmond, VA; six grandsons, Antione Christmas (Jennifer), Monte` Trice, Cordell Page, Derrell, Ryan, and Saquan Houchens; one granddaughter, Kiaria Grandison; two great-great granddaughters, Jeniyah Christmas and Leenaisha Bugg; one great-great grandson, little Antoine Christmas Jr.; three aunts, Hannah Hunter, Dorothy Henson, Alberta and Bertha D. Houchens of Mineral, VA; two nieces, Carolyn Houchens( devoted whom she loved dearly)and Barbara Coles (Joseph); three nephews, Charles (Emma), Wade (Juanita) and Ronald Jackson; one devoted cousin, Helen Houchens; her best friend and lunch buddy, Mr. Bernard Grandison and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, February 17, 2013 at Mt. Garland Baptist Church, 4000 Buckner Road, Bumpass, VA 23024 with Rev. Joseph Yancey officiating. Interment will follow in the Houchens Family Cemetery.
