Harvey Clifton Johnson, the son of the late Louise and Collie Johnson, departed this life on December 12, 2007, at the age of 81 at the Louisa Health Care Center. He attended school in Louisa County, Virginia. During World War II, he served in the United States Army. He later moved to Washington, D.C.
For 55 years, he was married to Malvinia Baker Johnson, his childhood sweetheart. Harvey and Malvinia were blessed with one greatly loved son, Harvey O'Leary. Harvey O'Leary married Donna Lewis. Of that union two children were born, Kelsea Caroline and Jordan Christopher. Harvey's grandchildren brought him untold joy.
Harvey was a man of high integrity with a strong work ethic, which he demonstrated throughout his long career as a truck driver at Herman's Ford and The Washington Star newspaper.
He joined Philippi Christian Church at an early age and maintained his membership throughout his life. Harvey was a kind and loving person, always willing to do whatever he could for others.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Malvinia; their son Harvey O'Leary of Washington, D.C.; grandchildren Kelsea Caroline and Jordan Christopher of Washington, D.C.; three brothers: Frank (Sadie), Lesley (Shirley), and Chanchell (Joyce); and one sister Nannie Bates, all of Mineral, Virginia; two brothers-in-law Charles Baker of Mineral, Virginia, and William Baker of Woodbridge, Virginia; two sisters-in-law Daisy Baker Gordon of Washington, D.C., and Jerutha Baker (William); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Sleep on, dear Harvey, and take thy rest. We love you, but God loves you best.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at Philippi Christian Church with the Reverend Temple Anderson, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Baker-Harris Family Cemetery.
