Grover Cleveland Young , affectionately known as Larry and Cle, passed away on July 25, 2025. Born in Prosperity, South Carolina on April 15, 1937, Grover dedicated his life to public service and the beŴerment of his community. He spent the early part of his life in Capital Heights, Maryland, before moving to Orange, Virginia, where he resided for thirty years. He was a long-serving supervisor at the Department of Agriculture in Greenbelt, Maryland, until his retirement. In his personal life, Grover found joy in farming, a hobby that reflected his love for the land and nature. He also served faithfully as a Trustee of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Orange, Virginia, demonstrating his commitment to his faith and community. Grover was widowed, and he leaves behind his two beloved daughters, Grovena Blunt and Kelynn Reeves.
Grover's life was marked by dedication, service, and a deep love for his family and community. Those who knew him will remember him for his steadfastness and unwavering spirit.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mollie Jean Towles Young, his parents, James and PrinceŴa Young, sisters Minnie Young Boyd, Grace Young Miller and Margaret Young Smith; brothers, Willie Frank Young and Jacob Young.
Lovingly those who continue to celebrate his life and legacy, two daughters, Grovena Young-Blunt ( Johnnie) of Portsmouth, VA and Kelynn Reeves (Melvin) of Moncks Corner, SC, four grandchildren, Miriam Harris, Joshua Harris, Elijah Harris and Rayshaarde Lewis; sisters Dorothy Y. Mitchell of Newberry, SC and Elizabeth Y. Smalls (Sam) of Winnsboro, SC, brother Charles R. Young (Cassandra) of Jacksonville, FL.; sisters-in-law Shelby A. Minor of Orange, VA and Marva G. Towles of Beloit, WI, brother-in-law Rufus A. Towles, Sr. of Orange, VA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many loving fiends.
